“You have great potential, but terrible time management”

These words from my former boss stuck with me. She would constantly give me constructive feedback appreciating my work and disparaging my work ethic. She would constantly remind me that my poor time management significantly effects my ability to meet deadlines and no matter what job I do, this will always be looked down upon.

I took her advice into consideration, but could not make a lot of progress. Now I face the same issue with my current employment. I lack the urgency to complete a task which puts me in very tight situations. I wanted to work upon this! So, to invest some time in myself I enrolled in Amal fellowship and as week 2 project work I have chosen time management as my #JustStart goal!

The plan of action to achieve this goal has three simple steps:

  • Complete 1 Pomodoro session in one sitting
  • Complete 2 Pomodoro sessions in one sitting
  • Complete 3 Pomodoro sessions in one sitting

I will take this process very gradually and build upon my ability to work with an unwavering focus. This week I am working on making it through one complete session of Pomodoro. I found very nice Hogwarts themed study with me Pomodoro sessions that I play while in the background while working!

The main challenge I have to overcome are the 5 minute breaks. I tend to extend the 5 minute breaks too much which disrupts the entire pattern. I learned that improving my time management might not be a huge task if I start with small steps. This week I will try to expand upon the idea of sticking to the short breaks so I can maintain the tempo and complete the sessions!
